Storyteller. Journalist. Public Media Believer.

Hey there, my name is Seth Thorpe, and I want to change the world with my work, but I can’t do it without your help.

I recently graduated from Belmont University with a B.S. in Media Productions and a minor in Journalism, and I currently work at WPLN 90.3 Nashville Public Radio as a Science, Technology and Economics reporter.

In that role, I combine my experience of video production, boots-on-the-ground journalism, and accurate reporting to explain the news that everyone needs to know to best inform their daily lives.

Since starting in December, I’ve produced over 15 aired-radio stories (along with accompanying webposts) written for the Nashvillager newsletter, and my hands-on work with Reels editing and carousel content with our Digital Editor led to over 20% growth in followers and engagement.

Before WPLN, I spent sixteen months as senior audio-news editor at the Belmont Vision, where I rebooted the audio program after two dormant years, brought in over a thousand new listeners across two semesters, trained 10+ students on podcast equipment, and edited award-winning podcasts including Sideline Vision and Beyond the Boulevard.

Outside the newsroom, I’ve been a resident assistant since 2023 — recently managing a floor of 30 freshmen and supporting a building of over 200 more, which taught me more about working with people, learning to listen closely, and expanding my worldview in a way that now influences how I pitch and write stories.

I’m looking for a public media reporter role — ideally at a public-media outlet, a news organization connected to a university or a start up news organization — where I help bridge the age gap that radio is actively attempting to clear before its too late.
